The ongoing tournament consists of a round-robin stage followed by the knockout phase. Each team will play against all other teams once during the round-robin stage.
Initially, the tournament was scheduled to be played from 9 February to 26 March 2023. But, in July 2020, it was announced that the game would be delayed to an October–November window, following the disruption of the qualification schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The current defending champion of ICC CWC is England, who won their maiden title in 2019. Australia holds the record for the most World Cup victories (5 times). India and West Indies are the only two teams that won the title more than once, with two victories each.
