Women’s Premier League Teams List 2023

After the worldwide success of the Indian Premier League, The first edition of the Women’s Premier League started on 4th March 2023 and will end on 26th March 2023. As per the BCCI announcement a total of 22 matches will be played in the tournament. All the matches of the tournament will be played at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai, and at DY Patil Stadium, Pune. The Auction for Women Premier League was organized for the first time on the lines of IPL by the BCCI in the month of February. Here is the Women’s IPL Teams 2023.

Women’s Premier League Auction 2023

The Women’s Premier League Auction has been completed on 13th February 2023, at Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. A total of 409 players were registered and selected for auction out of which 246 were Indians, and 163 were overseas players out of which 8 players were from associated nations. For the teams, 90 slots were available, with 30 being slotted for overseas players.

On the auction day, 87 players were sold for Rs. 59,50,00,000. Smiriti Mandana was the most expensive player of WPL 2023. She was sold to Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs. 3,40,00,000. On the other hand, Indian cricket team captain, Harmanpreet Kaur joined the Mumbai Indians for INR 1.80 Crore. All-rounder Deepti Sharma and Jemimah Rodrigues made massive gains after being bought by UP Warriorz for INR 2.60 Crore and Delhi Capitals for INR 2.20 Crore respectively.

Women’s Premier League Auction Base Price 2023

WPL Auction Base Price 2023- INR 50 Lakhs is the highest reserve price with 24 players choosing to be slotted in the highest bracket. Team India Captain Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma, and India’s Under-19 T20 World Cup-winning captain Shafali Verma are among the few Indians who have slotted themselves in the highest bracket. 13 overseas players have also slotted themselves under the INR 50 Lakh reserve price with the likes of Ellyse Perry, Sophie Ecclestone, Sophie Devine & Deandra Dottin to name a few. 30 players are in the auction list with a base price of INR 40 Lakh.

Women’s IPL Teams 2023

In October 2022, the BCCI announced that they were considering a five-team tournament that would take place in March 2023. The new tournament was informally known as the Women’s Indian Premier League; however, on 25 January 2023, the BCCI officially named it the Women’s Premier League. The predecessor of the Women’s Premier League was the Women’s T20 Challenge which started as a single-match tournament in 2018 and expanded to a three-team, three-match competition held in 2019, 2020, and 2022.

Women’s IPL Teams 2023- In the Women’s Premier League, a total of 5 teams are owned by 5 franchises. For this team auction, BCCI closed the bid for WPL teams on 25 January 2023 and raised Rs. 4669 Crore (US $580 million). These five franchises include Diageo, JSW Group, Adani Group, Capri Group, and Reliance Group.

Multiple companies responded to the BCCI’s call for franchise rights. Franchise rights were sold for five years, from 2023 to 2027. Adani Group of Gautam Adani, won the rights to the Ahmedabad franchise for ₹1,289 crores (US$160 million), India win Sports Pvt Ltd, part of Reliance, won the Mumbai franchise for ₹912.99 crore (US$110 million), GMR–JSW Cricket Pvt Ltd won the Delhi franchise for ₹810 crores (US$100 million), Capri Global holdings won the Lucknow franchise for ₹757 crore (US$95 million), and Royal Challengers Sports Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of alcohol manufacturing company Diageo, won the Bangalore franchise for ₹901 crores (US$110 million).
