The game was played at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, and got started at 9:30 AM, where the toss of the match was done just before the 30 minutes of the game i.e. at 09:00 AM on 17th Feb. In the match the Indian team was led by Rohit Sharma and the Australia team was lead by Pat Cummins. In the toss, Australia won the toss and opted to bat first. After this, the Indian team won the match by scoring 118/4 runs in the second innings. India’s team won the second test match by 6 wickets.

Jaydev Unadkat, who was released from the squad ahead of the second test has been added back to the squad, after his incredible performance in Ranji Trophy Final. Despite woeful returns in his recent outings in Test cricket, opener, and vice-captain KL Rahul retained his spot in the Indian Test squad for the final two Tests against Australia. Ravindra Jadeja, who marked a spectacular comeback into the India Test squad following a shoulder injury having picked 17 wickets in the first two Tests, was also named for the ODIs.

Rohit Sharma will lead the team against Australia in the first 2 tests and KL Rahul will be the vice-captain. After that, on 19th February 2023, BCCI also announced the squad for the rest 2 test and 3 matches ODI series.
